Visit Hornborgasjön Celebrates 10 Years
This anniversary will be celebrated with a guided bus tour around one of Sweden’s foremost bird wetlands – Lake Hornborga. As nature flourishes in the late summer glory, guides Niclas Fällström and Anki Rundquist will share stories of a landscape with a history stretching from the Ice Age to the present day.
We’ll travel through the unique plateau mountain landscape, designated as Sweden’s first UNESCO Global Geopark. On our journey, we’ll stay as close to the lake shore as possible, and along the way, the guides will tell us about the history of Lake Hornborga, the stunning nature, and the rich cultural heritage of the area.
During the tour, we’ll make stops at various scenic spots around the lake. Among others, we will visit the lake’s inflow and outflow points, the crane resting area Trandansen, the Hornborgasjön Nature Centre (Naturum), and the historic site of Varnhem.
Hear stories about ancient burial sites, traditional agricultural landscapes, and medieval architecture in the form of churches and monasteries.
We’ll also stop for both lunch and coffee on the way.
We will be outdoors for part of the tour – dress appropriately. And feel free to bring a binoculars.
